We're Number One
This trophy was awarded to The Fence Sitters in recognition for their first place standing in: unmet health needs, violence against women, depression, self-harm, smoking and alcohol-use.
This sculpture aims to raise awareness about bisexual health disparities. Increasingly, researchers are recognizing that bisexuals are a unique population with specific health needs. Compared to heterosexuals, gays and lesbians, bisexuals experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, self-harm, smoking and alcohol-use. These health disparities are theorized to be the result of bisexual invisibility and erasure, as well as the fact that bisexuals experience discrimination from both heterosexual and gay and lesbian communities.
